Elva Marie
Bowker
Elva M. (LeMaire) Bowker of Malden, died Thursday, February 11,
2010 in the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, she was 93.
Born on September 12, 1916 in Saugus, she was the daughter of
the late Hector and Evelyn (Rogers) LeMaire. At the age of six,
Elva and her family moved to Malden. After high school, Elva
entered into nursing school. She studied in and graduated at St.
Joseph’s Hospital in Nashua, NH and was a pioneer in industrial
nursing. After World War II began, Elva followed her
nursing career at General
Electric assisting the employees as an industrial nurse. In 1940, Elva married her sweetheart, Kenneth M.
Bowker. The couple spent almost 60 years in marriage together,
raising and caring for their family, until Kenneth’s passing in
February 2000. Some years later, Elva furthered her
nursing to Transition
Company in Wakefield before finally retiring from the Schrafft’s Candy
Company in Charlestown in 1981. Elva was an extremely caring
person. She loved and adored her family and grandchildren. She
spent many wonderful times with her family and friends at her
home in Nova Scotia, Canada.
Elva is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Crowell and her
husband, Lawrence, of Malden, her granddaughters, Alyson
Crowell-Astuccio and Elizabeth
Blankenship and her husband,
Keith, and her great-grandchildren, Jocelyn and Mathew Astuccio
and Sarah and Daniel
Blankenship.
In addition to her parents and husband, Elva was preceded in
death by her brothers, Hector and Theodore LeMaire.
At the family’s request, funeral services will be held
privately.
