ALLEN EUGENE FILER

 

 

Allen Eugene Filer, 91, of Hopewell Twp PA., formerly of Malden, Massachusetts, passed away on Friday July 4, 2008 in the West Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Moon Twp, PA.

He was born on October 17, 1916 in Camden, NJ a son of the late Allen E. and Ida (Everhart) Filer and he worked as a self employed master electrician. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the campaigns of Europe, Africa and the Middle East.  He was fond of animals, especially birds and he enjoyed fishing.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Maria C. “Kay” (Correnti) Filer; and a daughter, Barbara Lee DiRienzo.

He is survived by four grandchildren, Jennifer Slate and her husband Steve; Stephanie Cercone and her husband Guido; Laura DiRienzo and her husband Michael; and Heidi Chichester and her husband Bryan; five great grandchildren, Kylie; Kaytlin; Anthony; Stephen; and Gianna; and a son-in-law, Anthony DiRienzo and his wife Cheryl.

Allen has been living in the West Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the past three years were he developed many great relationships with the Doctors and staff.  They had become part of his extended family.  His family would like to thank the staff for the  truly special attention and care given to Allen over the years.

Friends will be received on Sunday from 2-4pm and 6-8pm in the Darroch Memorial Chapel, 2640 Mill Street, Aliquippa www.darrochfuneralhome.com where prayers will be offered on Monday at 9:30am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, July 8th, at Holy Cross Cemetery, in Malden Massachusetts, time will be announced. 

The Beaver County Special Unit will meet on Monday at 9:15am in the funeral home to conduct full military honors.
