Jeannette Gillis

  

     Jeannette (Croken) Gillis, of Malden died Saturday morning, May 31, 2008 in the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital after a long illness, she was 59. Jeannette was born in Malden on September 21, 1948,  she was the daughter of the late Leonard M. & Frances (Nichols) Croken.

     Jeannette was educated in the Malden School system and after high school she later married Donald J. “Jim” Gillis, the couple stayed in Malden and raised their family. Jeannette later worked as a waitress for different restaurants in the Malden area for the next fifteen years. She also worked for the City of Malden as a School Crossing Guard, and was a volunteer for the Malden Neighborhood Basketball League, a job she truly enjoyed.

     In her spare time she enjoyed the company of her loving family and loved spending time with her grandchildren and cooking. She had a fond following for Dan Marino and the Miami Dolphins as well as the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots and Boston Celtics fan.  She loved to socialize with her friends and family.

     She is survived by her husband, Donald J.  “ Jim” Gillis  of Malden,  her  loving children,  James  S. Anderson  of Colorado,  Tammy   J. Dow  of Malden,  Kimberly  J. Stodder  of Taunton, Daniel  J. Gillis  of Malden, Darci Walcott of Malden, and Nicole Gallagher  of Saugus, her brothers,  Lenny Croken and his wife  Betsy  of Ipswich,  Bill Croken and his wife  Dona  of  NH, her grandchildren,  Cheyenne &  Paige Dow as well as eight  other grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

     Jeannette’s funeral will be held from the Weir-Mac Cuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden, on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at 8 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Josephs Church, 770 Salem St., Malden at 9 AM.  Burial will follow in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden. 

Friends and relatives may call at the Weir Funeral Home, on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 from 2-4 & 7-9.
