Genevieve Hughes

 

     Genevieve (Grosso) Hughes died Sunday morning, March 30, 2008 at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford, she was 89.  Born in Boston on February 16, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Rosario & Louise (Imbemba) Grosso.  Genevieve was a graduate of Girls High School in East Boston with the class of 1936.  After her education, Gen worked as a sales associate in the jewelry department for the former Filenes’s Department Store in Boston, for the next thirty –five years, retiring in December of 1987. 

     On December 26, 1943, she married her sweet heart John B. Hughes in St. James Church, in Arlington and the couple settled in Medford. The couple enjoyed the next eight years together until John’s passing while serving his country during the Korean War in June of 1951. Gen later moved to Malden for the next sixteen years and settled in the Heritage House, in Malden.

     In her spare time, Gen enjoyed traveling, taking trips to Hawaii, Bermuda, Kennebunk, Maine and extensively traveling on cruises. She was an avid shopper and was always ready to take the day and shop. 

She is survived by her loving brother, Angelo Grosso of Malden, several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grandnephews.

     She was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Hughes, her father, Rosario Grosso, her mother, Louise Imbemba, her brothers, Peter and Anthony Grosso, and her sisters, Martha Virtue, Susan Mazza, Sylvia Grosso and Vera McPherson.

Visitation will be held in the Weir -MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St. Malden, on Wednesday April 2, 2008 from 4 to 8 PM.

     Funeral will be held from the  Weir –Mac Cuish Golden Rule Funeral Home on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Hearts Church, 297  Main St. Malden at 10 AM.  Interment to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
