George Frederick Pompeo

George F. Pompeo, a life-long resident of Everett died suddenly on Monday, November 16, 2009 at the Whidden Memorial Hospital in Everett, he was 72.  Born on January 6, 1937 in Everett, he was the son of the late Angelo and Marie (Burnham) Pompeo.  George was raised and educated in Everett and was a graduate of Everett High School.  A few years after high school, George married the love of his life, Cynthia Yerxa on November 21, 1959 in the, now closed, St. Theresa’s Church in Everett.  George and Cynthia spent almost fifty years together in marriage, raising and caring for their two children.  George worked as a construction laborer and was a member of Local 22.  He worked for many years for the Rich Construction Co. of North Reading and retired from the company in the early 2000’s.

George was an avid sports fan of all the Boston teams but most especially the Celtics and Red Sox.  He and relative had season tickets for many years to the Celtics games during the old “hay-days.”  He was also an accomplished athlete; playing semi-professional baseball while aspiring to play for the Red Sox.  In his later years, George enjoyed gardening and working around his house, fixing small things and keeping busy with home improvement projects.  Known as a generous and giving man to strangers, George would give anything, especially his love and heart, to his adoring family.

George is survived by his wife, Cynthia Pompeo of Everett, his children, George D. Pompeo of Ossipee, NH and Brenda Pompeo-D'Alessandro and her husband, John J. D’Alessandro of Wakefield, his brother, Joseph Pompeo and his wife, Sheila of Everett, his grandchildren, Amanda and John George D'Alessandro, both of Wakefield as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
