Melvin R
Ritson, 83, a longtime resident of Malden, died Friday,
December 4, 2009 at Union Hospital in Lynn. Melvin was born and
raised in Wilmington, MA. Like many of his day, he left high
school early to enlist in the Navy to help our countries fight
in WWII. He later received his diploma from Wilmington High
School. After his service to the Navy, Melvin worked as a
carpenter for a few years. He married his sweetheart, June A.
Stanley, and the two settled down in Malden to raise their
family. He and June shared nearly 50 years together until her
passing in 1999. He left the carpentry trade to take a job as a
die cutter with the Container Corp. of America, located in
Medford at the time. He retired in 1997 from the company after
almost 40 years, but then took employment with State to help
keep busy. He worked as an assistant to the State Engineer for
another 10 years befor retiring for good.
Melvin enjoyed
always kept a love of carpentry with him, and enjoyed working
with his hands and building things. He also enjoyed tending to
the yard, and working his flower and vegetable gardens. He was
also a proud Life Member of the VFW Post 8819, North Billerica.
He is survived
by his children, Lisa A. Connearney of Billerica,
Susan L. Mattucci of Billerica, James S.
Ritson of Malden, Joseph S. Ritson of CA, June A. Fleming of Lynn, Michael R. Ritson of
Medford, Paul W. Ritson of Malden, his sisters, Hazel Hume of
FL, and Barbara Walsh of CA, and his brothers, Harold and
Carol Ritson of Malden, and Jack Ritson of Concord, as well as
fourteen grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
He was
preceded in death by his wife June Ann (Stanley) Ritson, his
parents, Thomas W and Madeline L.( Bryant. Ritson), his
brothers, William, Charles, Thomas, and John Ritson, and his
sisters Joan Evangelista, Madeline Dingle and Betty Coutreau.
Funeral
services will be held from the Weir MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral
Home on Wed, Dec 9th, at 9AM followed by a Mass of
Christian Burial in Sacred Hearts Church , 297 Main Street,
Malden. . Fr. Daniel J. Hickey of Sacred Hearts Church will be
officiating. Burial will be in the Wildwood Cemetery in
Wilmington.
Visitation
will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, Dec 8th,
from 2-4 PM and 7-9
