Barbara Ann
Rivers
Barbara A. (Lorgeree) Rivers died Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at
Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, she was 78. Born in
Somerville on July, 2, 1932, she was the daughter of the late
Edward and Ethel “Bunny” (Young) Lorgeree. Barbara and her
family moved quite a bit when she was a child but she was mainly
raised and educated in Everett and was a graduate of Everett
High School. On January 2, 1952, Barbara enlisted in the U.S.
Navy. She served our country during the Korean War until her
discharge on April 28, 1953. Barbara married her sweetheart,
Arthur R. Rivers on Valentine’s Day, 1962. The couple spent
over 48 years in marriage together, raising and caring for their
family. Barbara was an active member in the Good Shepherd
United Methodist Church in Malden. She enjoyed contributing
what she could to the church. She served many roles in the
parish; including a period where she was treasurer as well as
the financial secretary. Barbara enjoyed assisting during the
church’s Vacation Bible School and even taught Sunday School.
Affectionately known in the church as the “Huggy Lady,” Barbara
was beloved by all for her warm and caring charm.
Barbara is survived by her husband Arthur R. Rivers of Malden,
her children, Edward Hodgin of Malden, David Hodgin of TX,
William Hodgin of Beverly, Stephen Hodgin of VT, Walter Hodgin
of Bedford, Bunny Murphy of NY, and Linda Rivers of Malden, her
grandchildren, Brian and Jesse Hodgin, Kristy Sodano, Heather
Hodgin, Draea and Stephanie DeSidoro, and Justin Rivers, her
great-granddaughter, Summer Skye Sodano, and her niece, Kelly
Walker and her son John.
In addition to
her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her sister,
Patricia Williams and her brother, John Lorgeree.
Visitation
will be in the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home on
Thursday, August 26, 2010 from 3 to 7 PM.
A funeral service will be held in the Good Shepherd United
Methodist Church on Friday, August 27, 2010 at 10 AM. Rev. Ruth
R. Odour, Pastor of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church will
be officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the Puritan
Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
