(Overlan) Symonds
Judith Ann (Overlan) Symonds of Malden died on Sunday, April 27,
2008 at the Kaplan Hospice House in Danvers, she was 67. Born
on November 6, 1940 in Everett, she was the daughter of Gertrude
(Wilder) Overlan and the late Cornelius Overlan. Judith was
raised and educated in Malden. She was a graduate of Malden
High School with the Class of 1959. Judith married her
sweetheart, Joseph H. Symonds, Jr. on April 8, 1961 in the
Immaculate Conception Church in Everett. When Joe and Judith
were first married, they lived in Corpus Christi, TX due to
Joe’s service time in the U.S. Navy. When they returned home,
the couple settled back to Everett. In 1968, Judith and Joe
moved to Ferry Street in Malden. They lived in their Ferry St.
home for 17 years, raising and caring for their family until
they moved to their current home in Malden. Judith and Joe
loved to travel and would go to a different location every
year. Through all her accomplishments, Judith’s proudest life
achievement was raising and caring for her husband, sons, and
family.
Judith is survived by her husband, Joseph H. Symonds, Jr. of
Malden, her sons, Jeffrey Symonds and his wife, Jeanette of
Groveland, Joseph Symonds of Springfield, VA, Jon Symonds and
his wife, Nina of Melrose, and Jay Symonds and his wife, Lisa of
Melrose, her mother, Gertrude Overlan of Malden, her sisters,
Jackie Russell of Manchester, NH and Joyce Minasian of
Lynnfield, her grandchildren, Scott, Emma, Gabrielle, Julia,
Jay, Genevieve, Grant, and Holden Symonds as well as many nieces
and nephews.
In addition to
her father, Judith was preceded in death by her siblings, Joan
Hampton and her brother, Neil Overlan.
Funeral from the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144
Salem Street, Malden on Friday, May 2, 2008 at 9 AM followed by
a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Hearts Church, 297 Main
Street, Malden at 10 AM. Rev. Paul J. Aveni, Pastor of St.
Mary’s Church in Revere and family friend will be presiding.
Burial will immediately follow in the Forest Dale Cemetery,
Malden.
Visitation
will be held in the funeral home on Thursday May 1, 2008 from 5
to 9 PM.
