Grace Yanakopoulos

Gramatoula “Grace” (Floudaras) Yanakopoulos of Malden, died
Monday, June 22, 2009 at the Twin Oaks Nursing Home in Danvers
after a brief stay. She was born in Manchester, NH and was the
daughter of the late Louis and Helen (Pappas) Floudaras. At an
early age, Grace and her family moved from Manchester to
Boston. She was raised and educated in the Boston school
system. After high school, Grace began to work for the Pilgrim
Trust Bank in Boston. After working for the bank for many
years, Grace married her sweetheart, George Yanakopoulos on
November 7, 1954 at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of New England
in Boston. George and Grace settled in Malden to begin their
family. George and Grace were married for over 50 years until
George’s passing in December of 2004. When her children were
older, Grace went to work for the Malden Schools as a cafeteria
aide at the Linden School. She worked for the city for over ten
years until finally deciding to retire in the early 1970’s.
Grace was a past member of both the Cathedral Ladies
Philoptochos Society in Boston as well as the St. Josephs
Women’s Club in Malden. While known as a gracious hostess and
famous for many dishes (especially her coffee cake), Grace will
always be remembered as a wonderful mother, wife, sister, and a
woman full of Grace.
Grace is survived by her children, Louis Yanakopoulos and his
wife, Joan of Malden, and Evelyn Festa of Malden, her siblings,
Lena F. Hollis of Melrose and James Floudaras of Belmont as well
as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to
her husband and parents, Grace was preceded in death by her
sister, Kelly Kyriakou, and her brothers, George, John, and Alex
Floudaras.
A funeral service will be held in the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule
Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden on Thursday, June 25,
2009 at 10 AM. Fr. Cleopas Strongylis of the Greek Orthodox
Cathedral of New England will be presiding. Burial will
immediately follow in the Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, June
24, 2009 from 4 to 8 PM.
