"Jackie" Balfour
John Irwin
Balfour, 50, a lifelong resident of Melrose, died Thursday,
February 1, 2007 at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington. Jackie
was born in Portland Maine in 1956. At an early age he moved to
Melrose, MA, where he grew up and attended Melrose High
School. He soon took employment with the Metropolitan District
Commission. He worked there for many years until the MDC was
realigned, at which time he worked as a foreman for the
Massachusetts Water Resource Authority. Between the MDC and
MWRA, Jackie had worked for over 34 year for the state.
Jackie was an
avid racing enthusiast. In his earlier years, he participated
in both drag racing and boat racing. He was a member of the
National Hot Rod Association, and had recently been working as
part of a pit crew. Jackie was also a big fan of hockey, and
enjoyed seeing the Bruins play.
He is survived
by his wife Veronica M. (Richman) of Melrose, his son David J.
of Londonderry, NH, his daughter, Kaitlan M. of Londonderry,
NH, his step children, Jonathan C. Walsh of Tewksbury, Lisa M.
Povere of Weymouth and her daughter Lydia, his step mother, Beverly (McHatton) Balfour of
Amherst, NH, his brothers, David B. Balfour, Jr. of Melrose,
Stephen I. Balfour of Atlanta, GA, Robert L. Balfour of Melrose,
his sister, Karen E. Barretto of Haverhill..
He was
preceded in death by his father David B. Balfour Sr., and his
mother Mary (Noonan) Milot.
Visitation
will be held at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street,
Malden, on Monday, February 5th from 4-8 PM.
Funeral
services will be held Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. at
the funeral home. Pastor Martha Dominy of the First
Baptist Church of Malden will be officiating. Burial will be in
the Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose.
