Frank Kendrick Barker

    

     Frank K. Barker died Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, he was 86.  Born in Manchester, NH on May 23, 1921, he was the son of the late Frank A. Barker and Beatrice (Kendrick).  While giving birth, Beatrice passed away.  Frank A. Barker was remarried to E. Bernice Corey and she treated Frank as a son and he loved her as a mother.  At a young age, Frank’s family moved to Salem, NH.  He was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School with the Class of 1938.  After high school, Frank entered the Army to help fight during World War II.  He attended Wentworth Institute of Technology after his service to his country was complete and earned a degree in architecture in 1948.  On June 5, 1947, he married his sweetheart, Dorothy I. Smith, in the Grace Episcopal Church in Everett.  Frank and Dorothy spent over 58 years in marriage together, raising and caring for their family, until Dorothy’s passing in August of 2005.  Frank worked for over 38 years for ADT security.  When he retired in 1986, he was working as a dispatcher for the company.  Frank was an avid reader and enjoyed watching sports, especially golf.    

     Frank is survived by his children, Anne Barker of Boston, John Barker of Malden, Susan LaBonte and her husband Michael of Haverhill, and Bruce Barker of Wakefield, his sisters, Doris Howard of Salem, NH and Barbara Clark of Epsom, NH, and his grandchildren, Jason and Alexa LaBonte, both of Haverhill.

In addition to his wife and parents, Frank was preceded in death by his sister, Evelyn Mattox.

Visitation will be held in the Weir - MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St. Malden on Friday, February 29, 2008 from 6-8 PM.

     Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, March 1, 2008 at 10 AM.  Rev. John R. Clarke of St. Paul’s Episcopal Parish will be the celebrant.  Interment will immediately follow in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
