Doris Adelaide Barnes

Doris
A. (Goldsmith) Barnes died Thursday, July 2, 2009 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital
in Medford, she was 90. Doris was born on December 8, 1918, in Malden, MA the
daughter of the late Lloyd & Mildred (Dennis) Goldsmith. She was raised and
educated in Malden and was a graduate of Malden High School Class of 1936.
Doris
married her true love, John Barnes on March 2, 1945 in the Forestdale Community
Church, Malden. The couple remained in Malden and raised their two daughters,
Alice & Betty. Doris had been a resident of Malden for the last 90 years.
Mrs.
Barnes was the church secretary at the Everett Cooperative Parish for eleven
years and retired in 1981. She was the Past President of the "Church of Women
United" and was a longtime member of the Forestdale Community Church as well as
“Willing Helper's" of the church (Women's Group) and a choir member. She was an
active member of the Mass Audubon Society and led many groups of people for bird
walks in Forest Dale Cemetery and Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge. She started
and directed the” Vacation Bible School" at the church and served as the
Director for many years.
She
is survived by her loving husband, John Barnes of Malden, her daughters, Alice
M. Casamento of Malden and Betty A. Bustin of Tewksbury, her cherished
grandchildren, John Casamento, Lorraine Casamento, both of Malden, Amy Bustin,
Jason Bustin and Kevin Bustin, all of Tewksbury.
In addition to her parents,
Doris was preceded in death by her siblings, Lloyd Goldsmith and Margaret
Scribner.
Friends and relatives are respectfully invited to visiting hours at the Weir –
MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St. Malden on Sunday, July 5, 2009
from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.
Funeral service for Doris will be held in the Weir - MacCuish Golden Rule
Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden on Monday July 6, 2009 at 10 AM. The Rev.
Paul C. McPheeters, Pastor of Forestdale Community Church will be officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.
