Lucy Ann Battaglia

     Lucy A. Battaglia of Malden, died early Tuesday morning, December 23, 2008 at the Epoch Senior Healthcare Nursing Home in Melrose, surrounded by her loving family; Lucy was 85. Born on September 7, 1923 in East Boston, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Faustina (Cipriani) Ferraro.  Lucy was raised and educated in East Boston.  She married her sweetheart, John Battaglia on September 21, 1945.  Lucy and John spent over 54 years in marriage together, raising and caring for their family, until John’s passing in May of 2000.  Lucy worked as a sales associate for many years at Sears in Saugus, helping out in many of the stores’ departments.  In her retired years, Lucy was a very active member at the Dutton Center in Wakefield.  Lucy’s true passion throughout her life was always caring and spending time with her family.

     Lucy is survived by her children, Grace Battaglia of Lexington, John Battaglia, Jr and his wife, Margaret of Everett, and Lucille Hennessey and her husband, Michael of Malden, her sisters, Norma Todd and Anna Bradshaw, both of Everett, her grandchildren, Riley Hennessey of Malden, Jennifer Cosentino of Lexington, John J. Battaglia, Alexandra Battaglia, and Devin Battaglia, all of Everett, Michelle Cardinale and her husband Lawrence Cardinale of Everett, and Michael Vasta of Malden, her great-grandchildren, Jason Cardinale and Carolann Cardinale, both of Everett, as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Lucy was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Vasta, and her brothers, Angelo Ferraro and John Ferraro.

     Funeral from the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at 9 AM  followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Josephs Church, 770 Salem St. Malden  at 10 AM.  Interment will follow in the Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.

Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Monday, December, 29, 2008 from 4 to 8 PM.

Contributions in Lucy’s memory may be made to the Dutton Adult Day Health Center, 1117 Main Street, Wakefield, MA 01880.
