Betty L. Grant

August 7, 1921- December 24, 2009

Betty L. (Malm) Grant, age 88, passed away on Christmas Eve.  Her family moved to Malden in 1925 from Boston.  Her grandfather who had the down payment on the $4,000 house did not want to leave the Swedish community in Roslindale, but when he saw Maplewood Square with Swedish names on the businesses and churches, he agreed to the move.  Betty grew up on Willard St. and attended the Ayers, Maplewood, and Browne Jr. High Schools.  She proudly graduated from Malden High in 1939 and from Malden Commercial School in 1940.

Betty worked at Revere Knitting Mills in Malden and Wakefield for 20 years and H. P. Hood in Charlestown for 15 years.  She enjoyed working every day and made long lasting friendships at both businesses.   She continued to bowl with her Revere Knitting Mills friends until 3 years ago.

She will be dearly missed by her daughter Terry Andrea Hauck (and Jack) of Gloucester, her son, Andrew Grant (and Judy) of Malden; grandchildren Kristen Derosier (and Lloyd) of E. Kingston NH, Jennifer Grant of Middleton, Matthew Hauck (and Jen) of Reading, Kateri Grammas (and Grier) of Gloucester, and Jessica Hauck of Gloucester.  Also, 8 great grandchildren: Morgan and Lucas Derosier; Wenzday Meimaris; Carla, Logan and Noah Hauck; and Alexis and Gavin Grammas.  She also leaves a brother and sister-in-law, John and Ginny Grant of Wells ME and many dear nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are welcome to call at the Weir-Mac Cuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden, on Thursday, December 31, 2009 from 10-11 AM, followed by a graveside service in Forest Dale Cemetery, 150 Forest St., Malden at 11:15.

In lieu of flowers contributions in Betty’s  memory may be made to the Maplewood Baptist Church, Memorial Fund, 729 Salem St. Malden, MA 02148. For directions & obit:  www.weirfuneralhome.com
