Madeline Mildred Binda

    

     Madeline M. (O’Brien) Binda of Lakeland, FL, formerly of Malden died Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at her home in Lakeland surrounded by her family, she was 75.  Born on July 18, 1931 in Lowell, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Madeline M. (Fortier) O'Brien.  Madeline was raised and educated in Malden.  She was a graduate of Malden High School with the Class of 1950.  After Madeline completed high school, she went to work for the Federal Reserve Bank in Boston.  She worked for 3 years until she married her sweetheart, John J. Binda, in St. Mary’s Church in Revere in 1954.  After they were married, Madeline and John settled in the Linden section of Malden to begin their family.  The couple spent 48 years in marriage together, raising and caring for their family until John’s passing in 2002.  In 1982 and 1983, Madeline worked in the principal’s office at the Malden High School.  In 1983, Madeline began working for Saugus Bank and Trust as a teller.  After a few years, she left Saugus Bank and went to work for BayBank.  Madeline worked in BayBank’s ATM Operations department and was responsible for making sure all of the branch’s ATMs were balanced and functioning properly. 

     Madeline was very active in Malden’s community affairs for many years. She was also a member of the Linden Improvement Committee during the 1980’s and also volunteered for many years for the Linden Fourth of July committee.  During her retired her years, Madeline was extremely involved in many activities in Lakeland, including the historical committee and the community newspaper.  Madeline had lived in Lakeland, FL for the past 13 years and was previously a long-time resident of Malden.

     Madeline is survived by her children, Maureen Binda (Schuler) of Woburn, Jeanne Binda of Lakeland, FL, and John Binda and his wife, Seana, of Exeter, NH, her grandsons, Eric and Daniel Schuler, and her brother, Richard O’Brien and his wife, Rose of Lakeland, FL.  Madeline is survived by many adoring nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Madeline was preceded in death by her grandson, Tristan Binda and her siblings, Edward O'Brien, Marjorie Dunson, Dorothy Farraher, Elizabeth Dingwell, and Joseph, William, and Arthur O'Brien.

Visitation will be held in the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden on Tuesday, May 15, 2007 from 4 to 8 PM.

A committal service will be held privately in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.

     In lieu of flowers, contributions in Madeline memory may be made to the Good Shepherd Hospice, 105 Arneson Ave. Auburndale, FL 33823 or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
