Walter Henry
Bolster, Jr., 94, a retired firefighter for Malden Fire
Department, where he worked for 34 years, died Friday, April 25,
2008 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose. Walter was
born and educated in Melrose, and after completing high school,
he married his sweetheart, Florence M. Fitzgerald. The two
settled in Malden to raise their family and lived in Malden for
over 70 years. He was appointed to the Malden Fire Department
in 1942 and worked as a firefighter out of the Pearl Street and
Maplewood stations. He retired from the Central Fire Station in
1977. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians of
Malden, The Lodge of Sterling A.F. & A.M. of Malden, Royal Arch
Chapter of the Tabernacle, Knights Templar of Malden and the
Allepo Temple Shrine of Wilmington. Walter also enjoyed playing
drums in his free time, and was a skilled carpenter as well as
being a “Jack of all trades”
He is survived
by his daughters, Lucille “Lu” Grifone and Adrienne
“Penny” Cole, both of Malden, nine grandchildren, was lovingly
called “G.G.” by his nine great-grandchildren.
He was
preceded in death by his wife, Florence M. (Fitzgerald), his
parents, Walter and Florence (White) Bolster, his son Stephen
Bolster, his sisters Ruth Scafati and Florence Bolster, and his
brothers, Alfred and Norman Bolster.
Visitation
will be held at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street,
Malden, on Tuesday, April 29th, from 4 – 8 PM.

Funeral
services will be held on Wednesday, April 30th, at 10 AM in the
Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home. Rev. John R. Clarke of
St. Paul's Episcopal Parish will be officiating. Committal
services will be private. |
