Eva Bremner
Eva Bremner,
97, a longtime resident of Malden, died Tuesday, April 01, 2008
at the Winchester Hospital. Eva was born in 1911, in County
Antrim, Ireland, while her parents were visiting from the US.
She was raised in Malden, and graduated from Malden High with
the Class of 1929. After high school, she attended the Malden
Business School. She soon took employment with the Blanchard
Lumber Company in Boston where she worked as a secretary. In
1933, she married her sweetheart, J. Stuart Bremner, in
Bennington, NH. The two settled back in Malden to raise their
family. Eva and Stuart were able to share 10 years together
until Stuart's untimely passing in 1943.
Eva continued
working at the lumber yard, even when they moved locations from
Boston to Walpole. Even after her retirement from the lumber
yard, she took part time employment to help keep busy. She
worked as a secretary for the law office of Atty Bernadette E.
Casavant in Wakefield. She continued working until the age of
88. Throughout her life, she has also volunteered as a Sunday
school teacher in the Centre Methodist Church in Malden.
She was a past
member of the YWCA Business Women’s Club, a past season ticket
holder of the Boston Red Sox. Eva was an avid gardener who
enjoyed working "the good old earth" while tending to her
flowers, and was a great lover of music, but her greatest joy
was spending time with her great grandchildren. Mrs. Bremner
lived in Malden.
She is
survived by her daughters, Margaret “Peggy” Pelosi of Malden,
and , Nancy J. Stella of Melrose, her brother, George LeMay of
Saugus, as well as five grandchildren and ten great
grandchildren.
She was
preceded in death by her husband J. Stuart Bremner, her parents,
Andrew and Jenny (Frye) Henry, her sisters Margaret Henry,
Mildred Goldsmith, Jean Henry, and Edna Shepherd, and her
brother Robert J. Henry.
Visitation
will be held at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street,
Malden, on Thursday, April 3rd, from 4-8 PM
Funeral
services will be held Friday, April 4, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at St.
Paul's Episcopal Church, 26 Washington Street, Malden. Rev.
John R. Clarke of St. Paul's Episcopal Parish will be
officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Dale Cemetery,
in Malden.
