Eben Clarence Butt

 

     Eben C. Butt of Medford, formerly of Malden, died Thursday, July 5, 2007 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, he was 81.  Born on September 20, 1925 in Malden, he was the son of the late Gilbert and Mary Elizabeth (Sommers) Butt.  Eben was a raised and educated in both Malden and Melrose; he was a graduate of Melrose High School.  After completing school, Eben joined the Navy to help fight for his country during World War II.  Upon return home from his war service, Eben went to work for the General Electric Company.  He worked for G.E. for over forty years as a jet engine inspector until his retirement in the early 1980’s.  Eben married his sweetheart, Barbara M. (Acres) on May 11, 1957 in Malden.  The couple moved to Malden shortly after to begin their family.  Eben and Barbara spent over 38 years of marriage together, raising and caring for their daughters until Barbara’s passing in February of 1996.  Eben was an avid Boston sports fan. He loved his Red Sox and Patriots.  He also enjoyed meeting up with friends at Suffolk Downs to wager on the horses.  Eben had lived in Malden for well over 40 years and it was only the past few years that he had been living in Medford.

     Eben is survived by his daughters, Sandra R. and her husband, Douglas Perry of Medford and Donna and her husband, David Zinetti of Malden, his sister, Emma Travis of NH and his grandchildren, D.J. and Alicia Zinetti of Malden and Jaki and Jordan Perry of Medford.

In addition to his wife and parents, Eben was preceded in death by his sister, Muriel Butt.

Visitation will be held in the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden on Sunday, July 8, 2007 from 4 to 8 PM.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Monday, July 9, 2007 at 10 AM.  Rev. Rand Peabody of the Congregational Church of West Medford will be officiating the service.  Burial will immediately follow in the Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Eben’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
