Beatrice
Eleanor Cary, 97, a longtime resident of Malden, passed away
on Sunday, April 29, 2007 at the Glen Ridge Nursing Care
Center in Medford. Beatrice was born and raised in E.
Providence, RI. While she was a teenager, her family moved from
Rhode Island and settled in Malden. Beatrice completed her
education in Malden and attended secretarial school. She worked
for a time for Perry Pictures, where they produced pictures and
photos for educational purposes.
In 1937,
Beatrice married her sweetheart, Robert H. Cary, and the two
settled in Malden to raise their family. They became active
members of the Centre Methodist Church, now the Good Shepherd
United Methodist Church. Beatrice and Robert shared over 55
years together until Roberts passing in 1993.
Over the
years, Beatrice was active with many groups within the church
while she was able. She was a founding member of the Tandem
Club, a member of the "Four C's", a member and past leader of
the UMW, and a member of the Church Women United. Beatrice was
also a member of The Old and The New, of Malden.
Beatrice was a
great correspondent, and never failed to miss sending a card to
family and friends on holidays and other special occasions. She
was known to send over 200 cards at Christmas, and had a knack
for remembering everybody’s names.
She is
survived by her son, Robert H. Cary Jr and his wife Agusta
(Haraldsdottir) formerly of Iceland, now of Malden, her son in
law, Donald L. Oliver of Sandown, NH, as well as 2
"adopted" grandchildren and 9"adopted" great
grandchildren, all of Iceland. She also leaves numerous
cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was
preceded in death by her husband Robert H Cary Sr., her
Parents, Charles A.A. and Clara (Benson) Anderson, her
daughter, Ann L. Oliver,her son, Arthur W. and her sisters, Muriel Gleitsmann and
Adeline Strand.
Funeral services will
be held on Wed, May 2nd, at 10AM at the Good Shepherd
United Methodist Church, 577 Salem Street, Malden. Interment to
follow in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden. Visitation will be held
at the Weir- MacCuish Funeral Home. 144 Salem Street, Malden,
on Tuesday, May 1st, from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM..
