Robert Taylor Cogswell, of
Malden, formerly a longtime resident of Somerville, passed away on Monday,
August 21, 2006 at Mass General Hospital in Boston. . Robert was born in
Arlington and raised in Lexington. After graduating from Lexington High School,
he attended Harvard University, where he received his Bachelor of Arts in
English. A few years after college, Robert enlisted in the US Army and fought
in the Korean Conflict. Upon his discharge in 1950, he took employment with
Raytheon, where he was a purchasing agent. He worked at Raytheon for 44 years
until his retirement in 1994.
Robert married his
sweetheart, Ruth P. Baird, in June of 1951, and he moved with her to
Somerville. The two shared over 55 years together raising their children and
spending time with their grandchildren. Just a few years ago, they moved from
Somerville to Malden where they reside. Robert was a longtime, active member of
the Simon W. Robinson Lodge, AF & AM, of Lexington. In his spare time, he
enjoyed settling down with a good book.
He is survived by his wife,
Ruth (Baird) Cogswell of Malden, his daughter, Betsy A. Carman of Melrose,
his son, Robert B. Cogswell of Malden, his sister, Patricia Cogswell of
Woburn, and his grandchildren, Allan and Scott.
He was preceded in death by
his parents, Charles and Dorothy (Taylor) Cogswell
Visitation will be held at
Weir MacCuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden on Wednesday, August 23rd,
from 4-8 PM
Funeral services will be held
Thursday, August 24, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. at the Weir MacCuish Funeral Home. Rev.
Robert Mackie of Mystic Side Congregational Church in Everett will be
officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge.
