Frances Ella Coyne

     Frances E.  (Bates) Coyne, died suddenly Friday afternoon, December 14, 2007 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, Melrose, she was 89.  Fran was born on March 30, 1918 the daughter of the late Russell E. & Sadie (Gregory) Bates. She was born in Mendon and later moved at an early age with her parents to Melrose. She attended the Melrose School system and was a graduate of Melrose High.

     Frances worked as a waitress for many years and would later marry James A. Coyne Jr. Fran was a good cook, and with that idea the couple would open a restaurant in Revere. They   named it  ” Lu-Frans “  it  was located on  Route  C1  in Revere, MA  She always served good food and would carter to many a hungry motorist and passing truck drivers  throughout the day and night.  She later sold the restaurant about seven years later. She was an avid bingo player, and had lived in lived in Melrose and later lived in Malden for over fifty years. .

     She is survived by her daughter Roberta Crowton and her husband Arthur of Salem, NH, her son,. Merton Arthur Chase and his wife  Rose  of Maine, her son, Lenny  Chase and his wife  Rose of Wilmington, her daughter Carol Rooney and her husband  Rich of Florida, her son, James Coyne  III  and his wife Gloria of Malden. Frances was the cherished grandmother of ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

      She was preceded in death by her spouse, James Coyne Jr., her son Russell Chase, and her brother Russell Bates.

Visitation will be held at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem St. Malden on Monday, December 17, 2007 from 7-9 PM.

      A funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 8 PM. The Rev. Ruth Oduor of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, Malden will be officiating.

Burial will be private, in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, in Borne with her husband Jim.
