Ethel Pauline Day
Ethel
P. (Larkin) Day of Malden, died Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at the Beth Israel
Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, she was 80. Born on December 1, 1925 in
Lower East Pubnico, Nova Scotia, Canada, Ethel was the daughter of the late
William and Leta (Devine) Larkin. In 1930, she moved with her family to Malden
and has been living in the same house ever since. Ethel attended and graduated
from Malden High School with the Class of 1941. She married her sweetheart,
Albert H. Day on June 3, 1948 in Fryeburg, ME and the two spent 35 of marriage together until
Al’s passing in 1984. In her young adulthood, Ethel worked a clerical position
for an insurance company in Boston before eventually taking a job with the
Veterans Affairs Department, also in Boston. She worked for more than 20 years
at the VA until her retirement in 1987. Ethel was an extremely helpful person;
she helped many elderly and needy residents in her neighborhood with various
chores and tasks. Ethel was a life-long resident of Malden and a communicant of
the First Congregational Church of Revere.
She
is survived by her siblings, Lester Larkin of Woburn, Myrtle Currier of Del Ray
Beach, FL, Alfred Larkin of Melrose, Gerald Larkin of NH, and Nancy Grandmont of
Malden as well as many nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by
her husband Albert H. Day and her brothers, Ernest, Kenneth, and Clyde Larkin.
Visitation will be held at the
Weir~ MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street Malden, MA on Monday,
February 6, 2006 from 4-8 PM.
A
funeral service will be held in the First Congregational Church of Revere 230
Beach Street, Revere on Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at 11 AM. Rev. Nicholas
Granitsas, Pastor of the First Congregational Church will be officiating.
Burial will immediately follow in the Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.
In
lieu of flowers, contributions in Ethel’s memory may be made to either: the
