Theodore
Demitre
Theodore Demitre of Malden died Sunday, January 28, 2007 at the
McFadden Memorial Manor Nursing Home in Malden, he was 90. Born
on April 20, 1916 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, he was the son of
the late Dimitrios and Stamatina (Argyrakis) Zarafonitis.
Theodore was raised and educated in Montreal. He attended
Loyola High School in Montreal before attending O’Sullivan
College and graduating with a business degree. As a boy,
Theodore enjoyed summers on Peaks Island, ME. He summered there
for all his life. One summer in Portland, Teddy met his
eventual wife, Stavroula “Starr” Balomenos at a church service.
At the time, Ted worked for the Hertz Corporation as an
accountant in New York City. Starr conveniently taught in New
Jersey and the two continued to see each other until they were
eventually married in Portland, ME in 1956. In late 1968,
Theodore and Starr settled in Malden to raise their family after
Ted took employment with G.E. in their Medford office. Ted
served during World War II in the Canadian Army. Theodore was a
past member of the Ahepa in Montreal. Theodore also had a love
for old time music from the 1920’s, 1930’s, and 1940’s.
Theodore was always an extremely lovable and well liked guy.
Theodore is survived by his wife, Stavroula “Starr” Demitre of
Malden, his daughters, Matina and her husband, Norman Lang of
Brookline and Dorothea Demitre and her fiancée, Howard Kessler
of Freeport, ME, his sisters, Pauline Nicolopoulos of Montreal
and Martha Liacopoulos of Melrose, his grandchildren, Maxwell E.
and Austin Lang, both of Brookline, and his very dear friends,
Bernard and Ann Zablocki of New York, NY.
In addition to
his parents, Theodore was preceded in death by his brothers,
Anthony, Michael, and George Demitre.
A service of Christian Burial will be held in the Church of the
Annunciation, 70 Montvale Avenue, Woburn on Thursday, February
1, 2007 at 11AM. A period of visitation will precede the service
from 10 to 11 AM. Fr. Peter Rizos will be the celebrant.
Burial will immediately follow in the Forest Dale Cemetery,
Malden.
Visitation
will be held in the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144
Salem Street, Malden on Wednesday, January 31, 2007 from 4 to 8
PM.
In lieu of
flowers, contributions in Theodore’s name may be made to the
charity of one’s choice.
