Barbara Jean
Dole

Barbara Jean Dole, a longtime resident of Melrose, died Tuesday,
January 29, 2008 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, after a
lengthy illness. Barbara was born in Winchester, MA in 1923,
the daughter of the late Charles E. and Mildred S. (Kidder)
Dole. She was raised in Malden, and after attending the Malden
School system, she graduated from Malden High school with the
Class of 1941. Barbara had worked for the Department of Labor
as a stenographer in Boston for many years. She was a longtime
and very active member of The First Church in Malden,
Congregational. She was involved with the Women's Guild, The
Wanders, The 39 Club and the Women’s Fellowship. Barbara went
on many of the church trips to different parts of Europe. She
also was able to go to Hawaii and Sweden and spend time with
family she had there. Locally, Barbara enjoyed spending time
with her nephew Herbie. However, this was limited more recently
as she had been in declining health.
Barbara is survived by her sister, Thelma Smith of Billerica,
formerly of Melrose, her niece, Georgiette Johansson of Sweden,
Gloria Amirault of Lexington, and Janet Tsiknias of SC, her
nephews, Herbert W. Smith of Wakefield, Dexter Dole of NH, and
Gregory Dole of AZ.
In addition to
her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her brothers,
William and Charles Dole, and her niece, Robin S. Whitcomb.
Visitation
will be held in the Weir MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144
Salem Street, Malden, on Thursday, January 31, 2008 from 4 to 8
PM.
Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Friday,
February 1, 2008 at 11 AM. Rev. Randall P. Ferrara, Pastor of
The First Church of Malden, Congregational will be officiating.
Burial will immediately follow in the Lindenwood Cemetery in
Stoneham.
