Gerald Frederick Fitz Gerald Sr

 

 

 

    Gerald F. Fitz Gerald Sr., a life long resident of Malden, died at home on Sunday  morning, May 28th., he was 76.  Gerald was born in Boston on February 17, 1930. He was the son of the late James F. & Florence (Pacifico) Fitz Gerald.

     Gerald was educated in the Malden school system and was a graduate with the class of 1949.  He enlisted in the U.S. Army in September of 1948 during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Alaska.  He obtained the rank of Sergeant and was later discharged in May of 1952. On September 4, 1954 Gerald married Olympia M. Moschella in St. Joseph’s Church; the couple stayed in Malden and raised their three children. They would spend the next 51 years together.

     Gerald worked with the Carpenters Union, Local # 218 for twenty-two years until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of the VFW Post #639 of Malden, the American Legion Post 69 and the Past Commander of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 85 of Malden.

     He is survived by his wife Olympia, his daughters  Maureen Taylor of Malden, Diane    M. Anthony  of Billerica, his son Gerald  F. Fitz Gerald  Jr. of Norton, his siblings Ursula   J. Matthes  of Weymouth, Jeanne  U. Smith of GA, his cherished grandchildren,  Paul, Joseph &  Lauren Anthony,  Brenna and  Bryan Taylor,  Courtney  and  Kyle Fitz Gerald and his great-granddaughter  Sophia Anthony.

He was preceded in death by his father James Fitz Gerald Sr., his mother Florence Pacifico, and his brother James F. Fitz Gerald Jr.

Visitation will be held at the Weir ~ MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St. Malden, on Tuesday, May 30th.  from 4-8 PM

    In lieu of flowers contributions in Gerald’s  memory may be made to Hospice of the Northshore, 10 Elm St. Danvers, MA 01923.

    Funeral from the Weir-Mac Cuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden on Wed. May 31st at 8:45 AM followed by a  Mass of Christian Burial in St. Josephs Church, 770 Salem St., Malden  10:00 A.M.  Fr. Richard T. Bakker will be the celebrant.  Burial will follow in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.
