Thomas Edward Fitzgerald Sr.

 

Thomas E. Fitzgerald  Sr,  64, a retired reproduction supervisor for Varian Inc. (Vacuum Technologies) of Lexington, MA  where he worked for 35 years, died Monday, July 30, 2001 at his home in Malden after a short illness. Mr. Fitzgerald performed mostly government research at Varian and retired in 1996.   Mr. Fitzgerald had resided in Malden for the last 10 years and was previously from Everett where he resided for 33 years.  He was a graduate of Somerville High School Class of 1954. While still in school he joined the Army Reserve and served 10 years from 1953 to 1963  at Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford. Tom had a love for horses and had owned several riding horses himself. He also was involved with transporting horses  to different places.  Tom spent most of his free time at the Forest Riding Academy in North Reading, MA with the Laporte family. He loved his children and grandchildren very much.

In 1958 Tom married  Barbara  M. (Babcock) at  St. Polycarp's Church in Somerville and they shared the next 43 years together.

He is survived by his wife Barbara M. (Babcock) Fitzgerald, his daughter,  Susan  H. Doolin  of Brookfield, MA, his son Thomas E. Fitzgerald Jr.  of Candia, NH, his sister Marie Izzo  of Winchester, his brother  Robert Fitzgerald  of CA, his sister Joan Fitzgerald of Marlborough, his grandchildren,  Caitlyn Doolin, Sean  T. Fitzgerald, Timothy  R. Doolin, Casey  N. Fitzgerald, and Dylan  L. Fitzgerald, also survived by his dear friends the Laporte Family of North Reading, MA

He was preceded in death by his father Harold J. Fitzgerald, his mother Gertrude  E. Rupprecht, his brothers Richard  & William Fitzgerald. 

He was born December 15, 1936 in Somerville, MA the son of late  Harold and Gertrude (Rupprecht) Fitzgerald.

Visitation will be held at the Weir MacCuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden on Thursday, August 2nd.  from 2-4 PM and 7-9 P

In lieu of flowers contributions in Tom's memory maybe made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St.  Framingham, MA  01701.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on  Friday, August 3, 2001 at  9:00 A.M. at the  Immaculate Conception Church 600 Pleasant St. Malden. Father Richard J. Mehm Pastor of Immaculate Conception Church will be the celebrant.  Burial will be in the Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden.
