Alvin F Flint Sr.

Alvin Frank Flint, Sr., 84, a life-long resident of Malden, died Saturday, April 28, 2007, at Mass. General Hospital in Boston.  Alvin was born and raised in Malden and was a graduate of Malden High School, Class of 1941.  During high school, he began working as a mechanic at Lynch Brothers Carriage Company in Chelsea, where his father was part owner.  He began a transition into the office and became the bookkeeper for the firm.

In 1942, Alvin enlisted in the U.S. Navy to help fight in WWII.  His skills as a mechanic were put to use as an Aviation Machinist Mate in Florida.  Although he was assigned on three different occasions to serve aboard an aircraft carrier, each time he was deemed too valuable to leave his station.  He was discharged in 1945, where he returned to Malden with his wife, Helen A. (Meiggs).

While he was still in the service, he and Helen were married in 1943.  Alvin and Helen shared over 63 years together raising their family.

Upon his discharge, he resumed his position at Lynch Brothers.  He began taking accounting courses at Northeastern University.  He then took a position with Northeast Petroleum.  He worked as an accountant and assistant vice president for Northeast for approximately 15 years.  He also maintained his own part-time Licensed Public Accountant practice.  After his retirement, Alvin began working at the Malden parking garages to keep busy and in contact with people.

Alvin was an active member of the Maplewood Baptist Church for over 50 years, where he served as Deacon, Financial Secretary, Auditor and member of the Men’s Brotherhood and Advisory Board.  He was also active in the Boston Baptist Social Union and the Boy Scouts.

Alvin was a member of the Malden American Legion Post 69, where he served as Finance Officer and Sgt.-of-Arms.  He was also a past member of the Malden Kiwanis Club.  Alvin was the type of person who was always willing to help others, and he truly loved and was dedicated to his family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Helen A. (Meiggs) Flint of Malden, his daughter, Phyllis A. White and husband Leon H. of San Diego, CA, his son, Alvin F. Flint, Jr. and wife Martha of Dunstable, and his grandchildren, Paul A. White, MD, Joshua L. White, Esq., Daniel A. Flint and Bradley M.
