Hazel Nadine Freeman

Hazel N.
(Howell) Freeman, of Malden, died Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at the Harborside
Healthcare, Northshore in Saugus, MA. She was 93. Born on December 22, 1913 in
Weston, Kings County, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Charles B.
and Carrie (Power) Howell. Hazel was a graduate of Roxbury Memorial High
School, Class of 1932. She married her sweetheart, Charles B. Freeman, on April
25, 1934 in Dorchester. The couple spent fifty-four years together in
marriage, raising and caring for their family, until Charles’ passing in 1988.
Hazel worked for over 19 years for the Jordan Marsh Co., until she retired in
1975. Hazel was an active member of First Baptist Church of Malden. She was
also a member of the 630 Club as well as the AARP. Hazel had been a longtime
resident of Malden later retiring to Nova Scotia returning to Malden after the
death of her husband in 1988.
Hazel is
survived by her son, Richard B. Freeman and his wife, Rev. Doreen Parker Freeman
of Malden, as well as seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren three
great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews
In addition
to her husband and parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her daughter ,
Barbara L. Blood and her husband Charles and siblings, Blanche Howell, Ethel
Warner, Clara Howell, Viola Slaunwhite, Ruth Boudreau, and Murray Howell.
A memorial
service will be held in the First Baptist Church, 493 Main St. Malden on
Tuesday. February 27, 2007 at 11AM. Rev. Doreen Parker Freeman & Rev. Martha A.
Dominy will be officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Rest Cemetery,
Greenfield, Nova Scotia, Canada at a later date.
Contributions in Hazel’s memory may be made to the First Baptist Church Memorial
Fund or the Harborside Residents Council, 266 Lincoln St. Saugus, MA 01906.
Visitation will be
held in the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden on
Sunday, February 18th. from 4-8 PM.
