Barbara Myrta Garrett
Barbara M. Garrett, 68, a
lifelong resident of Malden, died suddenly Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at Brigham &
Women's Hospital in Boston. Barbara was born and raised in Malden. She
graduated from Malden High with the class of 1955. After high school, she took
employment with John Hancock as a secretary. She later worked for Gilbert
Realty, also as a secretary. In 1958, she married her sweetheart, Melvin L.
Garrett, and the two would share nearly 50 years together raising their family.
Barbara was a very active member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Malden, and
served the church as Senior Warden, Choir Director, and also secretary. She was
also an active member of St. Anne’s Guild within the church, where she served in
the past as President, Vice President, and Secretary. Barbara was an avid
bowler for many years, and also enjoyed playing cards and entertaining guests,
but her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her
husband, Melvin L. Garrett of Malden, her children, Jay P. Garrett of Hampton,
NH, Meredith J. Vitale of Everett, and Raymond A. Garrett of Malden, and her
brother, Richard W. Melanson of Billerica.
She was preceded in death by
her parents, Arthur and Eleanor (Morgan) Melanson.
Visitation will be held at
Weir MacCuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden, on Thursday, March 17th,
from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM
Funeral services will be held
Friday, March 18, 2005 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 388 Lynn
Street, Malden. Rev. Dr. Charles Moore, Jr. of St. Luke's Episcopal Church will
be officiating. Cremation will follow in Woodlawn Crematory in Everett.
