Salvatore Anthony Gidari
Salvatore Anthony Gidari,
82, died Sunday, June 27, 2004 at the Winchester Hospital in Winchester,
MA. Sal was born and educated in Cambridge graduating from Ringe Tech. When he
completed high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during W.W. II serving in the
Asiatic and Pacific Theatres. He was honored to be one of the sailor aboard The
U.S.S Todd in Tokyo Bay when the
Japanese signed their Treaty of Surrender aboard the U.S.S. Missouri. When he
was discharged he returned to Cambridge and worked in the construction industry
before going to barber school. He the partnered with another barber in the
University Barber Shop in Harvard Square. This became a very popular spot in
Harvard Square and made headlines when it was forced to close by being forced
out by his landlord in 1967 He then managed the Harvard Business School Barber
Shop until his retirement in 1984. He attended St. Joseph's Church in Malden and
was a member of the National Woodcarving Association which he enjoyed doing as a
hobby. He was also an avid fisherman and spent close to six months of the year
fishing on Pleasant Lake in Elkins, NH. Mr.
Gidari lived in Malden, MA for the past forty eight and was previously from
Cambridge.
He is survived by his wife Barbara A. (Clark) Gidari of
Malden, his daughter, Elizabeth A.

of NH, his daughter, Carol M. Gissinger of PA and his grandchildren: ,
Matthew D . & Kristin M. Macaulay of PA and Kyle A. & Kevin E. Gidari of
NH, Gidari
He was born December 28, 1921 in Cambridge, MA the son of
the late Salvatore and Catherine (Iozzo) Gidari.

A.M. in St. Joseph's Church, Malden with Rev. William J. Minigan, Pastor of St.
Joseph's Church officiating. Burial
was in the WW II Lot of Forest Dale
Cemetery in Malden.
