Mary Bernadette Gillis
Mary Bernadette (Peters) Gillis, 87, a retired floor lady
for Malden Knitting Mills, died Saturday, September 15, 2001 at the Mass General
Hospital in Boston, MA Mary died
after complications from a traffic
accident at the corner of Newhall
& Main St. in Malden on August
30, 2001. Mrs. Gillis had
moved from Canada at the age of 16 and lived in
Natick, MA She later moved
to the South End of Boston before
settling in Malden. Mrs. Gillis had
lived in Malden for the last 64 years.
Mary was a floor lady for the Malden Knitting Mills for 31
years and retired in 1977. Mrs.
Gillis was a former member of the Robinson Methodist Church in Malden until it's
closing. Mary loved to bowl with the Malden Senior Citizen Group
and was an avid knitter, sewer and needle pointing. Mary also performed
volunteer work at the Central Animal Hospital in Stoneham for 15 years.
She is survived by her daughter M. Norma Chisholm
& son-in-law Edward F. of Reading, her son,
Donald B. Gillis and his
wife Bettina L. (Cappelli) of Warwick, RI, Her sister
M. Emily DesRoches
& M. Lucy DesRoches both
of Canada. Her grandchildren Andrew
D. Gillis, Victoria A. (Gillis) Rinne
and her husband Leray, Edward J. Chisholm, Donald P. Chisholm, Paul N. Chisholm and his wife Carrie. Great-grandmother of
Isabella Q. Rinne.
She was preceded in death by her husband Norman Gillis, her
father Maxim F. Peters, her mother Maude Blanchard,
her sisters M. Rita Arsenault and M. Ethel DesRoches.
She was born November 24, 1913 in
Palmer Rd. section of St. Louis, P.E.I.
Canada the daughter of late Maxim and Maude (Blanchard) Peters.
Visitation will be held at Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule
Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden, on Wednesday, Sept. 19th. from
2-4 & 7-9 PM.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked for donations to
the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, 85 Lowell St., Peabody,
MA 01960
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 20, 2001
at 11:00 A.M. at the Weir MacCuish Funeral Home. The Rev. John C. Blair of
Centre United Methodist Church will be officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden.
