Benjamin Joseph Giordano

      Benjamin J. Giordano of Malden died Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, he was 79.  Born on November 10, 1926 in Everett, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Helene (Harder) Giordano.   Benjamin was raised and educated in Everett.  After he graduated high school in 1946, Benjamin went on to attend Boston College.  Before graduating with the class of 1950 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Benjamin was an All-American football player with the B.C. Eagles.  After college, he married his sweetheart, Shirley L. Perodeau on April 19, 1953.  The couple spent over 43 years in marriage together, raising and caring for  their family, until Shirley’s passing in July of 1996.  When Benjamin and Shirley were first married, the couple lived in Everett before moving to Malden.  Benjamin worked as a 5th grade teacher for the Malden School Department.  His first few years of teaching were at the Daniels School before finally moving on to the Chester W. Holmes School to teach.  During the nights, Benjamin worked for the U.S. Post Office in South Station of Boston helping unload mail trains.  He worked for the school department for 33 years and the Post Office for 20 years.  Benjamin was a member of the Everett Elks Lodge #642 as well as a member of the Swan Street Rats.  He was also a lifetime member of the Everett E Club, an athletic booster club for Everett sports.  Benjamin was an avid sports fan; he loved B.C. football, the Red Sox and the Celtics.  In his younger days, he coached the basketball team at the Holmes School where he taught and was also a member of the Malden Teachers Bowling League. 

     He is survived by his children, Richard Giordano and his wife Bonnie of Oxford, MA, Gail and her husband Cosmo Infurna of Melrose, Paula and her husband Robert Gillette of Malden, and Robert Giordano and his wife Eileen of St. Augustine, FL, his eight grandchildren, Plemin, Kimberly, Bo and John Gillette, Michael and Mark Infurna, and Daniel and Kerrin Giordano, his siblings, Rosemary Peterson of Melrose, Clara Welch of Florida, and Larry Giordano of Methuen, many nieces and nephews and friends, as well as his dear friend and her family, Mary Nickerson of Saugus.

He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents as well as his brother, William Giordano.

     Funeral from the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home 144 Salem St. Malden, MA on Saturday, July 29, 2006 at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Hearts Church, 297 Main St. Malden at 10 AM.  Burial will immediately follow in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.

Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Friday, July 28, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.
