Ruth "Melba" Guild
Ruth "Melba" Guild, 87, a retired telephone
operator, died Friday, March 1, 2002 at the Courtyard Nursing Care Center in
Medford, MA. Mrs. Guild was a life
long resident of Malden and worked as an assembler for the former Transitron
Electronics Co. of Melrose. She
later worked as a telephone operator for the former
N. E. England Telephone in Malden for eleven years and retired in 1979.
Melba had been active with the former Faulkner Methodist Church of Malden
and with the Women's Club helping to run the church suppers and other activities
at the church. She was a member of the New England Pioneers.
Melba is survived by her daughters, Lynda D. Loeser &
Priscilla L. McCarthy both of Melrose, her sister Buena E. Davis of Lowell and
her seven grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Erman L. Guild,
her father Edward R. Murphy, her mother Ruthendale T. (Smith) Murphy and her
brothers Donald E. Murphy and Wesley Murphy, her sister Theda T. Murphy
She was born September 1, 1914 in Malden, MA the daughter
of the late Edward and Ruthindale (Smith) Murphy.
Friends may call at the Weir Funeral Home, 144 Salem St.,
Malden on Sunday from 4-8 PM.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 4th. at 11AM
in the Christ United Methodist Church, 577 Salem St., Malden. The
Rev. Ruth R. Oduor will be officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden. Contributions in
Melba's memory maybe made to the Christ United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
