Arthur J. Hagan,  85, a  longtime resident of Malden, died Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at Lawrence  Memorial Hospital in Medford.  Arthur was born and raised in Chelsea.  He graduated from Chelsea High with the Class of 1941.  Soon after high school, he enlisted in the Army to help fight in WWII.  During the war, Arthur was wounded on three different occasions, including at the Battle of the Bulge, which earned him the Purple Heart.  Upon his discharge, he married his sweetheart, Eleanor R. Gillespie.  The two eventually settled in Malden where they raised their family and became part of the community.

Arthur went to work with the General Electric Company  in Lynn as a machinist.  He worked there for 30  years until a disability from wounds received while in the army, forced his early retirement.  Desiring to be active, Arthur began volunteer work, including driving around children who themselves had disabilities.  Arthur was also a member of the VFW Post 639 of Malden, a member of the East Side Athletic Association, the Irish American,  a member and Past Commander of the DAV Post 85 of Malden, and a member and Past President of the South Broadway Association.   Arthur also enjoyed traveling with his wife Eleanor, as well as fishing and golfing. 

He is survived by his sons,  Dennis Hagan  of Burlington, and Daniel Hagan of Derry , NH., his daughters, Joanne Geddry of FL  and Luanne Hagan  of Malden, his brother,  William Hagan of CA., as well as 8 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren, including Brian Edward Geddry, whom he was especially close with.

He was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor R. Gillespie, his parents,  Arthur J.  and Mary Ann (Malone) Hagan  Sr., and his son,   Richard Hagan. 

Visitation will be held at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden,  on Friday, April 27th from 4 - 8 PM

Funeral from the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden on Sat, Apr 28th, at 8AM for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Josephs Church, Malden, at 9AM.  Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
