Joan Marie Hampton

Joan Marie (Overlan)  Hampton,  70, died suddenly Thursday, August 14, 2003 at the Lawrence  Memorial Hospital, Medford, MA.  Joan was born in Stoneham and resided with her family in Everett until she was six years old.  She moved  to Malden  where she was a life long resident.  Joan worked for the Sexton Can Co. in Everett for fifteen years while raising her family. Mrs. Hampton was a  nurse's assistant  and  worked at the Bartlett and Buchanan  Nursing Homes in Malden for twenty years where she worked with handicapped  and downs syndrome adults, a job she loved to do.  Joan was a communicant of Sacred Heart's Church in Malden and  loved to read  historical romance novels and shop on QVC on television.  Mrs. Hampton lived in Malden,  for sixty-four  years.

She is survived by her mother Gertrude  E. (Wilder) Overlan of  Malden, her daughter Karen A. Hampton  of  Malden, her son  William  A. Hampton and his wife Christina  of Champlain, NY, her sister's  Jacqueline F.  Russell of NH, Judith A. Symonds of Malden, Joyce V. (Olson) Minasian  of Malden, her cherished grandchildren Jennifer, Ryan, Cody and Caleb Hampton all of  New York.  Joan was known as auntie to her many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband William R. Hampton who passed away on August 28, 1973, her father Corneilus F. Overlan, and her brother Neil  A. Overlan.

She was born March 23, 1933 in Stoneham, MA  the daughter Gertrude E. (Wilder) and  the late Corneilus F. Overlan.

Visitation will be held at the Weir - MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden, on Sunday from 2-4  & 7-9. 

Contributions in Joan's memory may be made to the Mystic Valley Elder Services,  Inc.,   300 Commercial St., Malden, MA 02148.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on  Monday August 18th at 10:00 AM in Sacred Hearts Church, Malden.  Burial will be in the Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden.
