Carol Ann Hirtle  

Carol Ann Hirtle,  58, a retired paraprofessional, died after a long illness Monday morning, August 27, 2001  at her home in Malden. 

Mrs. Hirtle  had  lived in Malden for the last  37 years and was previously from  Saugus.  Carol was a graduate of  the Saugus High School Class of 1961. Mrs. Hirtle  was a  longtime member of the Christ United Methodist Church, Malden and the Couples Club at the church. Member of the American Cancer Society Relay for Life Group. Carol had been a paraprofessional for the Malden School System for the last 15 years and both Paul and Carol retired in July of 1999.  She was a beloved mother & grandmother and a very special person.  Paul and Carol have been married for 39 years. 

She is survived by her husband, Retired Malden Fire Chief Paul R. Hirtle,  of Malden, her son, Scott P. Hirtle and his wife Barbara of  Rowley, MA her daughter, Paula A. Hirtle of  Malden, her sister,  Ellen Moore of Saugus, her brother Kent Nichols of Saugus. Grandmother of  Emily & Sean Hirtle both of Rowley. Also survived by several nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard Nichols, and  Bruce Nichols both formerly of Boston.

She was born July 8, 1943 in Lynn, MA, the daughter of the late Karl and Gertrude (Kently) Nichols.     

Visitation will be held at Weir -Mac Cuish Golden Rule Funeral Home 144 Salem St. on Tuesday evening from 7-9 PM and on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested contributions in Carol's memory be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 44 Binney St., Boston, MA 02115.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 30, 2001 at 10:00AM  at  the  Christ United Methodist Church, 577 Salem St., Malden. The   Rev. Ruth R. Odor  will be officiating.  Burial will be in the Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody, MA
