  Margery Ludlam Hirtle

 

Margery Ludlam Hirtle, 86, a retired administrative assistant for Malden Hospital, where she worked for 14 years, died Tuesday, November 13, 2001 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, MA.   Margery was born in Douglas, Arizona and educated in Staten Island, New York. When she completed high school she attended  Swarthmire College in PA She later  enrolled  in the Long Island County Hospital  School of Nursing where she received her degree in nursing and became a Registered Nurse. She then worked at the county hospital before moving to Malden in 1945. When she came to Malden she went to work for the Malden Hospital and became an Administrative Assistant for the Director of Nursing Services where she was employed for fourteen years until her retirement in 1980.

She was a member of the Centre United Methodist Church of Malden for fifty-five years, and served as the financial secretary in the sixties.  Margery was member of the Malden Zonta's Club and was an active volunteer at the Stoneham Zoo in Stoneham.  Mrs. Hirtle lived in Melrose, MA for 33 years and was previously from Malden where she resided for over twenty-three years.

She is survived by her  daughters, Margaret L. Marryat  of Sandwich, Deborah R. Bondjoukdjian of Melrose, her sons,  William  W. Hirtle  of  TX and  Jeffrey  W. Hirtle  of  Revere, her brother,  Edward  L. Blossom of  Ny,  ten grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Ralph B. Hirtle, and her sister Rhoda B. Minetree.

She was born January 23, 1915 in Douglas, Arizona the daughter of the late Edward and Maude (Bayliss) Blossom.     

Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 16, 2001 at 2:00 P.M. at Centre United Methodist Church,  7 Washington St. Malden, MA   The Rev. John C. Blair of Centre United Methodist Church will be officiating.  Cremation will be in the Woodlawn Crematory in Everett.  

In lieu of flowers contributions in Margery's memory maybe made to any worthy charity that you  want to give to.
