Arthur  W.  "Bill" Huggins Jr.

 

Arthur  W. "Bill"  Huggins Jr.,  82, a retired machinist for United Shoe Machinery, where he worked for twenty-five years, died Tuesday, September 28, 2004 at the  New England Medical Center in Boston, MA.  Bill was born and raised in Everett, graduating from Everett High School with the class of 1940.  Shortly after high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy  to help fight in WWII.  Upon returning from his tour of duty, he went to the Franklin Institute, majoring in drafting.  He later  took employment with General Electric in Lynn. In 1949, he married his sweetheart,  M. Shirley Lindquist, and the two would share the next fifty-five years together raising their two daughters. Bill left General Electric to take a position with the United Shoe Machinery in Beverly and stayed there until his retirement in  1985.

Bill was a member of the Aleppo Temple Shrine in Wilmington, the Galilean  Lodge AF & AM of Everett, a member of the VFW Post # 834 of Everett and a member of the Woodman of the World. Bill was an avid outdoorsman, and always enjoyed the opportunity for hunting and fishing.  Mr. Huggins had lived in Malden, MA  for last  fifty-five years and was previously from Everett.

He is survived by his wife Marion S. (Lindquist) of Malden, his daughters,  Marilyn S. Huggins and  Judith E. Spirito both of Malden, his son-in-law John Spirito and  his sister Jean B. Smith and her husband John of  Florida and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Arthur W. Huggins Sr., and his mother Thelma Shattuck.

He was born July 10, 1922  in Everett, MA  the son of the late  Arthur and Thelma (Shattuck) Huggins Sr..  He served in the  U.S. Navy during World War II having attained the rank of Machinist  Mate 3rd. Class. He enlisted on August 10, 1942 at Boston discharged on October 11, 1945 at Boston. 

Visitation will be held at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home, 144  Salem St., Malden on Thursday, Sept. 30th.  from  4-8   PM.

Funeral service will be private, at the convenience of the family.
