Mildred Estella Humphreys
Mildred E.
(Olson) Humphreys of Lynnfield, formerly of Malden, died Monday morning
September 18th at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, she was
93. Born on March 5, 1913 in Everett, she was the daughter of the late Herbert
G. & Erma E. (Carr) Olson.
Mrs.
Humphreys was educated in the Brown Elementary School and later in the Malden
Commercial School, graduating in 1931. Mildred later married her sweetheart,
Ormand F. Humphreys, on August 7, 1933 in Schenectady, NY and settled in Malden
to raise their three children. The couple shared over fifty-nine years together
until Ormand's passing in January of 1992.
Mildred was
the oldest member of the Maplewood Baptist Church. She was an active member of
the Women’s Circle club and the Mona Bina Chapter of the Eastern Star. In her
spare time, she enjoyed caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mildred had a love for knitting and crocheting. She was known for her knitting
of little beanie hats for the newborn babies at the Malden Hospital for many
years, along with making blankets and other things for her family. Mildred
resided for the last nine months at the Sunrise Senior Living Center in
Lynnfield but had been a life-long resident of Malden.
Mildred is
survived by her sons, Frederick H. Humphreys and his wife, Diana C., of Melrose
and H. Paul Humphreys and his wife, Judith A., of Tewksbury, her daughter,
Judith E. Grant and her husband, Andrew P., of Malden and seven cherished
grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by
her sister, Eleanor F. Larkin formerly of Bridgewater.
Visitation will be held in the
Weir ~ MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St. Malden, on Wednesday,
September 20th from 4-8 PM.
In lieu of
flowers, contributions may be made in Mildred’s memory to the Maplewood Baptist
Church, Living Memorial Fund, 729 Salem St. Malden, MA 02148.
Funeral
services will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2006 at 10 AM in the Weir ~
MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home. Pastor Gary L. McClenthen of the Maplewood
Baptist Church will be officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in
Everett.
