John Thomas
Reilly, 68, a lifelong resident of Malden, passed away Friday,
December 29, 2006 at the Hospice House in Reading, surrounded by his
loving family. John T. Reilly, or "Jack" as he is know to all,
was born in Boston, and raised in the "Edgeworth" section of
Malden. There he attended and became a member of the Immaculate
Conception Church. He was educated in Malden and graduated
from the Malden Vocational High School. Soon after high school,
Jack enlisted in the US Navy, and helped fight during the Korean
Conflict. Jack served aboard the USS Witek, a naval Destroyer
with extensive antisubmarine capabilities. He was honorably
discharged in November of 1961. After his discharge, Jack
returned to Malden, and soon took employment with the Revere
Journal, and soon after transferred to the Boston Globe. He spent 30 years working there as a Compositor, retiring in
1999. Jack had also attended Newbury College, where he received
his degree in Applied Science.
Jack was a
past member of the Malden Irish American Club. He was also very
involved in Malden youth sports, coaching both Little League
baseball teams, and Malden Recreational Hockey. Recently, Jack
has enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived
by his wife Muriel E. (Mulock) Reilly of Malden, his mother
Leona (Hubbard) Reilly of Malden, his son, Michael J. and wife
Denise Reilly of North Reading, his daughter, Kristen M. L.
Reilly of Malden, his grandchildren, Liam, Owen, Aidan, his
brother, Charles Reilly of FL, and his sisters, Carol Shediac of
Gloucester and Judith Lemist of Malden.
He was
preceded in death by his father, John W. Reilly and his brother,
Ronald Reilly.
Visitation
will be held at the Weir MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home,
144 Salem Street, Malden, on Wednesday, January 3rd
from 4 to 8 PM.
Funeral
services will be held from the Weir Funeral Home on Thursday,
January 4th at 8 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial in the
Immaculate Conception Church, Malden, at 9 AM. Father
Richard J. Mehm, Pastor of Immaculate Conception Church Malden
will be the celebrant. Burial will follow in the Forest Dale
Cemetery in Malden.
