Elin Dorothea Johnson Elin Dorothea (Friberg)Johnson, 98, died suddenly, Sunday, January 27, 2002 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, MA Elin was born in Goteborg, Sweden and came to the United States at the age of nine with her family. Her parents settled in Malden where she was educated and has resided for the past eighty nine years. Elin was a devoted homemaker and she was the oldest living member of the Christ United Methodist Church of Malden and a member of the United Methodist Women's Club. She was also an active gardener, seamstress and knitter and enjoyed reading. Mrs. Johnson lived in Malden, MA for 89 years. She is survived by her daughter, Claire B. Chalmers of Malden, six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. . She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur E. Johnson of Malden and her son Arthur Johnson, Jr. of Stoneham and is the last of seven siblings. She was born March 11, 1903 in Goteborg, Sweden the daughter of the late Robert and Klara (Nilsson) Friberg. Contributions in Elin’s memory may be made to the Memorial Fund of the Christ United Methodist Church, 577 Salem St., Malden, MA 02148. Visitation will be held at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden on Thursday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 1, 2002 at 1:00 P.M. at the Christ United Methodist Church, 577 Salem St. Malden with the Rev. John C. Blair of the Centre United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden.
