Ethel Viola Johnson

 

Ethel Viola (Jensen) Johnson,  79, a retired head cashier for  Sears Roebuck & Co., Department Store in Saugus, MA  died, Tuesday  April 10, 2001 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, MA    Mrs. Johnson was a life long resident of Malden  and a graduate of Malden High School Class of 1940.

Ethel retired from Sears on  August 7, 1992  after 31 years  of  service.  Mrs. Johnson was a life long  member of  the Christ United Methodist Church, in Malden.  Ethel loved to sing and many years ago was the choir teacher at the church were she taught many students to sing.  Ethel's home was her life, she loved to work in her flower garden in her  front yard and sit on her porch and talk to neighbors.  She was known to  ruled the street and was considered  by her neighbors to be the Mayor of  Fairview Ave. directing people as to what to do and where to park.  She loved summer cookouts at Bob and Kathie's home in Burlington.

She is survived by  her son's Edward  P. Johnson  & his wife, Diane  of AZ, Robert   D. Johnson & his wife Kathleen  of Burlington, MA. Her brother,  Walter Jensen  of Sparta, NJ Also survived by 8 grandchildren & 4 great-grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Johnson, who died in October of  1985, her father Axel R. Jensen, and her mother Anna S.  Falkingren..

She was born April 1, 1922 in Malden, MA the daughter of late  Axel and Anna (Falkingren) Jensen

Visitation will be held at the Weir- MacCuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden  on Friday, from 2-4 & 7-9PM.

Contributions in Ethel's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association / Mass Chapter, 1 Broomfield St.,  5th. Floor, Boston,  MA 02108

Funeral services will be held on  Saturday, April 14, 2001 at 10AM  at the  Christ United Methodist Church, 577 Salem St. Malden.   The  Rev. Ruth  R. Oduor of Christ United Methodist Church will be officiating.  Burial will be in the Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden.
