Mary Cunningham Johnson
Mary Cunningham Johnson, 89, died Saturday, June 9, 2001 at
the Harborside Healthcare Northshore in Saugus, MA. Mary was born in Boston and
educated in Somerville schools graduating from Somerville High School with the
Class of 1928. When her mother passed away in 1930, when she was only nineteen,
she took over raising her three
siblings. In 1941 she went to work for the John Hancock Insurance Co. in Boston
as a Group Underwriter and was employed there for thirty-one years retiring in
1973. She was a long time active member of the Christ United Methodist Church of
Malden serving on various boards and committees. She was also a member of the
Quarter Century Club of the John Hancock Insurance Co.
Mrs. Johnson had lived in Malden for over sixty-eight years prior to
moving to Harborside in Saugus, MA in 1998 .
She is survived by her step-daughter, Doris M.
Keer of Malden and her sister, Jean C. Moore of Saugus.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry W.
Johnson of Malden, her brother
William M. Ireland, Jr. who was killed in WW II US Army, and her sister Isabelle
C. Martin of PA.
She was born October 13, 1911 in Boston, MA the daughter of
the late William M. and Catherine (Cunningham) Ireland, Sr.
Visitation will be held at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home, 144
Salem Street, Malden, MA on Monday June 11th from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2001 at
10:00 A.M. at the Weir MacCuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem St. Malden, MA. Rev.
Ruth R. Oduor of the Christ United Methodist Church will be officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden.
