Dorothy Frances Joy
Dorothy F. (Leather) Joy died Friday, October 21, 2005 at the Harborside
Healthcare Nursing Home in Milford, NH, she was 84. Born in Malden on July 20,
1921, she was the oldest of 7 children and the daughter of the late Edward and
Ellen (Doherty) Leather. In 1944, she married her sweetheart, Arthur A. Joy,
while he was on leave from the Navy during WWII. The two shared the next 56
years together until Arthur’s passing in 2000. Dorothy was an avid Red Sox fan
and also enjoyed stitching but her children and grandchildren were the most
important part of her life. Mrs. Joy had lived in Malden since 1957, but had
lived in Milford, NH for the past 5 years. She was baptized and was a
communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Malden
She
is survived by her children, George A. Joy of Ft. Myers, FL, Arthur A. Joy, Jr.
of Altamont Springs, FL, Eunice M. and her husband, Michael Newton of Malden,
Robert C. Joy and his wife, Barbara of Milford, NH, and Susan Joy-Nowicki and
her husband, Thomas of Duxbury, MA, her sisters, Eunice Murray of Malden and
Ellen Magro of Woburn, and her cousin, Susan Mansfield of Melrose, as well as 11
grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by
her brothers George Leather, Edward Leather, and Roger Leather and her sister
Evelyn Smith.
Visitation will be held at the Weir~MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home 144 Salem
St. Malden on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 from 8:30 to 9:30 AM followed by a Mass
of Christian Burial in St. Joseph’s Church 770 Salem St. Malden at 10 AM. Fr.
William B. Minigan, Pastor of St. Joseph’s Church will be celebrating the Mass.
Burial will be immediately follow in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.
