John
V. “ Bumpa” Keats, Jr, 63, died Saturday morning, April 30, 2005 at
his home in Malden, after a short illness. John was born in
Revere, he was the son of John and Mary (D'Orlando) Keats, Sr.
He was educated in the Malden School system and was a graduate
of Malden High Class of 1960. John excelled at basketball and was
the captain of the basketball and football teams. After high school
he received a basketball scholarship to Tyler Jr. College in Tyler,
TX were he attended
and played for two years. He returned to Malden and married his high
school sweetheart Joyce E. Sanborn on September 9, 1962. The couple
lived in Everett and later settled in Malden and raised their six
children. John was a carpet & flooring installer working for
Style’s Flooring of Melrose and Marciello's Carpet Co. in Malden and
other local suppliers for over thirty years. John later worked for
the MBTA, first as a bus driver and later as fare collector for
eleven
years until his retirement in December 2004, because of his illness.
In
1988 John was proudly inducted in the Malden High School, Golden
Tornado Hall of Fame, for his accomplishments in basketball and football. John was
an avid carpenter and sports fan.
John
is survived by his wife, Joyce E. (Sanborn) Keats his daughters
Elizabeth J. Olson of Derry, NH, Christina M. Chananhouse of
Malden, Jacquelyn A. Lund of Malden, his sons John V. Keats, III
of Malden, Scott M. Keats of Everett, Bryan S. Keats of Malden,
his loving sisters Marion Antonucci of Marblehead, Jean Munsey of
Everett and his fourteen cherished grandchildren.
He
was preceded in death by his father John V. Keats, Sr., his mother
Mary R. D'Orlando, and his sister Helen Mattei.
Visitation will be held at the Weir -MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral
Home, 144 Salem St., Malden on Tuesday, May 3, 2005 from 4-7 PM. In
lieu of flowers the family has requested that perennial flowers be
sent or brought to the funeral home, to be later planted in a
memorial garden at the family home.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at 11:00
A.M. in the Weir-Mac Cuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem St. Malden.
Cremation will follow in Woodlawn Crematory in Everett.
