Ralph Robert Kelley
Ralph
Robert Kelley, 87, a retired bellman, died Monday, April 2, 2001 at the Dexter
Nursing Home in Malden, MA. . He
was born and educated in Cambridge schools and went to work for the Parker House
in Boston as a bellman after completing school. When W.W. II broke out he
enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving aboard the U.S.S. Hadley in the Pacific
Theatre. The ship received a Presidential Commendation for shooting down 23
Japanese planes in a ninety- five minutes of action off of Okinawa. During this
action the U.S.S Hadley was also
hit by three kamikaze planes. When he was discharged in 1945 he returned to the
Parker House in Boston where he continued to work for over fifty years as a
bellman, meeting many notable personalities, retiring in 1985.
Mr. Kelley lived in Malden, MA for over 50years and was previously from
Cambridge.
He is survived by sons, Ralph J. Kelley of Malden, and Robert
J Kelley of Chelmsford, his brother, John Kelley of Boston and two
grandchildren. .
He was preceded in death by his wife Ellen V. (Marchant) Kelley of Malden and
his son Timothy S. Kelley of Malden.
He was born December 23, 1913 in Cambridge, MA the son of the late George and
Catherine (Cronin) Kelley. He
served in the Navy during World War II having attained the rank of SSML3.

Visitation will be held at the Weir MacCuish Funeral Home,
144 Salem St., Malden on Thursday from 4-8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 6, 2001 at
11:00 A.M. at the Weir MacCuish Funeral Home with the Rev. Francis E. Sullivan
of Sacred Hearts Church officiating. Burial
will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.
