Rudolph James Kelsey

Rudolph James Kelsey,  75, a retired welder for Hanscomb Air Force Base, where he worked for  years, died Wednesday, September 11, 2002 at  in Malden.  Rudy was born and raised in Cambridge.  Like many of his day, he left  high school during his final year to enlist in the US Navy and help fight in WWII.   He was recently recognized for his efforts as a member of America's Greatest Generation, and was awarded his high school diploma by the city of Cambridge.  After WWII, he continued to serve his country by enlisting in the US Army and fighting in Korea.   Upon returning to the states, he settled back in Cambridge, and went to work as a welder for the Boston Navy Yard.  He also worked as a welder for the City of Cambrige, and continued to Hanscomb Air Force Base where he retired in 1991.

Rudy was a member of and past historian for the VFW Post 442 in Cambridge.  He enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, and all types of sports, but his greatest joy was his grandchildren.  Mr. Kelsey was a lifelong resident of Cambridge.

He is survived by his wife Jean F.  of Cambridge, his children  James E. Kelsey  of Waltham, Eugene D. Kelsey  of NY, Eileen D.. Donovan  of Malden, Deborah  A. Howard  of Millis, and Michele L. Coipel of FL, and Michael L. Kelsey of Malden, and his sister  Jean Hedges  of Cambridge.  Rudy was also the grandfather of 25, and the greatgrandfather of 10. 

He was preceded in death by his father Rudolph Kelsey, and his mother Eileen Richards.

Visitation will be held at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home on Friday from 4 - 8 PM

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 14, 2002 at 10:00 A.M. at Sacred Hearts Church. Rev. Daniel J. Hickey, Pastor of Sacred Heart Church will be officiating.  Burial will be in the Cambridge Cemetery in Cambridge.
