Karen Marsh Knowles
Karen Marsh Knowles, 52, died Monday, August 13, 2001 at
her home in Malden, MA after a lengthily illness. Karen was born and educated in
Detroit, MI and received her Bachelors Degree in Education from Adrian College
in MI. She went on to receive her Masters Degree in Religious Education at the
Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg, PA in 1973. It was while working
toward her Masters Degree that she met her husband, the Rev. James W. Knowles,
in 1971. They were married in 1975. From 1973 to 1975 she was director of
Christian Education at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Erie, PA.
She taught first grade in the Treverton, PA, prior to moving to Malden,
MA when her husband became Pastor of the First Lutheran Church of Malden in
1977. She was employed by the Malden Co-Operative Bank, later Pioneer Financial
of Malden for fifteen years in the mortgage department prior to becoming the
Office Manager for the National Society of Colonial Dames in the Commonwealth of
Massachusetts. She was an active member of the First Lutheran Church of Malden,
where she served as the Children’s Choir Director, and the Melrose-Wakefield
Chapter of the American Association of University Women. She was also a Girl
Scout Leader and an active member of the Breast Cancer Support Group at the
Melrose - Wakefield Hospital. .
She is survived by her husband, Rev. James W. Knowles of
Malden, her son, Stephen
M. Knowles of Malden, her daughter, Laura E. Knowles of Malden, her
parents Boyd W. & Lael (Kullander) Marsh of AZ, her sisters, Barbara A.
Cabble and Linda K. Kite of MI, several nieces and nephews and one grand
nephew..

Memorial Funeral Services will be held at the Lutheran
Church of the Redeemer, 60 Forest Park Road, Woburn on Fri. August 17th
at 11:00 A.M. Cremation will take place at Woodlawn Crematory in Everett.
