Eleanor Mae
Larkin
Eleanor M. Larkin of Somerville, died Thursday, April 10, 2008
at the Waban Health and Rehabilitation Center in Newton, she was
78. Born on January 30, 1930 in Roxbury, she was the daughter
of the late Walter and Davinia (Heirs) Latta. Eleanor was
raised and educated in Boston and was a graduate of Boston
public schools. She married her sweetheart, John D. Larkin, on
September 19, 1948 at St. Benedict Church in Somerville. The
couple lived in Cambridge when they were first married. After
John’s service during the Korean War was over, he and Eleanor
settled in Somerville to raise their family. Eleanor and John
spent over 56 years in marriage together until John’s passing in
November of 2004. Eleanor worked as a bookkeeper for
Woolworth’s in her earlier years. She later became a home
health aide and worked for many years until her retirement in
1993. Eleanor was very artistic; she loved to paint and draw.
She was also a piano player and loved to sing. She always would
sing musicals such as Mary Poppins and the Sound of Music,
sometimes with her husband, John.
Eleanor is survived by her children, Carol M. Larkin of Everett
and Stephen D. Larkin of Beverly, her grandchildren, Tracy
Fraser of Somerville, Taryn Fraser of Waltham, and James Fraser
of Everett, her great-grandchildren, Claudia and Isabella as
well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to
her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her
brothers, George and Garfield Latta.
Funeral from the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144
Salem Street, Malden on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at 9 AM followed
by a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Hearts Church, 297 Main
Street, Malden at 10 AM. Fr. Daniel J. Hickey, Pastor of Sacred
Hearts Church will be presiding. Burial will immediately follow
in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
Visitation
will be held in the funeral home on Monday, April 14, 2008 from
4 to 8 PM.
