John Donald Larkin

John Donald Larkin,  75, a longtime resident of Somerville, died Saturday, November 20th at his home in Newton.  John was born in Boston and raised in Somerville.  While growing up, he attended Malden Catholic and graduated with the class of 1947.  He enlisted in the service right out of high school, and served with the Screaming Eagles, 101st Airborne Division during the Korean Conflict.  After his discharge he returned to his wife Eleanor M (Latta), and the two would share over 50 years together until his passing. John worked for many years managing various body shops in the Somerville area, and even after his retirement 4 years ago, he worked at Marco Appliance in Malden to keep himself busy. 

John was an active member of the VFW Post 9800 of Somerville, and the American Legion Post 19 of Somerville.  He was also an avid sports fan, enjoying all of the local sports teams.  Mr. Larkin lived almost his entire life in Somerville, until just recently moving to  Newton,.

He is survived by his wife Eleanor M. (Latta) Larkin  of Newton, his daughter Carol Larkin of Malden, his son , Stephen D. Larkin of Salem,  hss grandchildren, Tracy Fraser, Taryn Fraser, James Fraser, and his great grandchildren,  Claudia and Isabella.

He was preceded in death by his parents,  Harry and Gladys ( McKee) Larkin, and  his sisters, Pauline Burns, Geraldine Walsh, and Rita Adelaide Hamilton.

Visitation will be held at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden  on Tuesday, Nov 23rd,  from 5 - 8 PM

Contributions in Johns memory  may be made to American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham MA 01701 9376 

Funeral services will be held Wednesday,  Nov 24th, from the Weir Funeral Home at 9 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in Sacred Hearts Church.    Fr. Daniel J. Hickey of Sacred Hearts Church will be officiating.  Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.
